After graduating college, I returned to my first love—teaching math and English I soon taught myself to code and have been writing, designing, and developing ever since. These days I focus on Allie Teaches English. I also partner with social enterprises and nonprofits to develop English and Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum.
My first paid job was tutoring at age 13. I graduated high school at 16 and started a tutoring company at age 17. I earned a BA in Cognitive Psychology from Michigan at 20 and an MSc in Comparative and International Education from Oxford at 21. I went from clinical psychology to cognitive psychology and education, training as an academic researcher.
Enter quarter-life crisis. Graduating into the 2008 economy forced me to rethink my plans as there were limited jobs in my field (international education). I started freelance to escape the monotony of my admin job at a university, which included hours of scanning, answering phones, and not much room for growth.
I embraced freelacing and work from home life. As a freelancer and contractor for agencies, I wore many hats, and earned top placements at YouTube/Google, Honda, and Macmillan Education. It didn’t take me long to realize that I missed the people and sense of purpose in the nonprofit world. I now devote most of my work to social enterprises and nonprofits.
I love meeting new people! If you’d like to discuss working together, online learning, ESL. or international education, don’t hesitate to stay hello! Use the contact link in the header to get in touch!
